The movie takes place in an unnamed post-Soviet country, where American soldier Ian Shaw (James MacAvoy) finds himself caught in a mysterious and deadly trap. After being killed in action, Ian's consciousness lingers, and he's able to interact with the physical world. Using his newfound abilities, Ian teams up with a scientist, Dr. Catherine Linklater (Emily Blunt), to uncover the truth behind a sinister plot threatening global stability.
