The plot follows (Gyllenhaal), an investment banker living a sterile, upper-class life. After his wife Julia is killed in a car accident, Davis doesn't cry. He doesn't show the "normal" signs of grief. Instead, he becomes fixated on a broken vending machine at the hospital.
