Proprietary tuning suites (e.g., ECUtek, Cobb) dominate the market but limit transparency and safety validation. This paper proposes a hypothetical open-source core library, termed (Electronic Control Unit Tuning – Core Library), designed to provide standardized read/write access to common ECU protocols (CAN bus, K-Line, UDS). We evaluate the trade-offs between performance gains (5–15% increase in horsepower) and risks such as increased NOx emissions and engine knock.
